Membership

In common with other orienteering clubs in Scotland, members choose which governing body best suits their needs, either British Orienteering or Scottish Orienteering. People can join:
- As a member of the club (KFO) and of the Scottish Orienteering Association
- As a member of the club (KFO) and the Scottish Orienteering Association and of British Orienteering
The first option is for people who are likely to take part only in Scottish events, or events closer to home. The second option is aimed at people who need the full insurance cover from British Orienteering to serve as club or event officials. Or they want to compete at major British Championship events UK wide.
There are four categories of membership:
- Senior: any member aged 21 or older on 31 December of the membership year
- Junior: any member aged 20 or younger on 31 December of the membership year
- Young adult: any member aged between 21 and 25 on 31 December
- Family: two adults and one or more children
The membership year runs from January to December but anyone joining after 1st November gets the rest of the year free.
Benefits from becoming a member:
- Discounted entry fees at all orienteering events under the remit of British Orienteering. This is usually £1 per event so membership will become cost effective over time.
- We organise some informal activities and coaching for our members.
- Becoming a member enables you to have a say in the direction of the club, via questionnaires or feedback.
- A sense of belonging, meeting new people, and socialising at events.
- The opportunity to buy KFO branded T-shirts.
See the different options explained on the Scottish Orienteering website here.
You can join KFO online through the British Orienteering or Scottish Orienteering website.
